I know many of us read First Day Jitters by Julie Danneberg with our students during the beginning of the year. If you aren’t familiar with it I won’t give away the ending, but let me tell you… it’s adorable! If you don’t already have it, you’ll want to grab it. Trust me. =)

This year, I tried something new with the story and am sharing the ZAP! game cards I made for the story with you. They’re great for whole class games, partner games, and centers. I haven’t used centers a ton in third grade, but I’m mixing it up this year and plan to make all new centers for reading workshop. I’m starting by slowly introducing the activities in whole class minilessons and then pushing them out to my centers after students are familiar with them.

You can grab your free set of cards in my store. Please take a second to leave feedback if you like them. I appreciate it hearing what you have to say and it motivates me to make more. =)
Not that anyone is already thinking about the end of the year, but these are the companion books you might want to buy to take advantage of the buy 3, get 1 free offer Amazon has in their 4-for-3 promotion. The Big Test is all about the class getting ready for their state test (I think we can all relate to that one!) and Last Day Blues shows the students preparing to say goodbye.

Thanks for sharing! I can't wait to use this!!

Our first week was last week, so I'm heading into week two tomorrow. I read Recess Queen, Bad Case of Stripes, The Name Jar, & Rainbow Fish to my students. Week two is full of more read aloud to get my third graders thinking of how they can be positive citizens in our classroom 🙂

Thanks for taking away a few of my "jitters" by sharing these! SMILES and stop by anytime! I look forward to seeing what else you do!
I like these. I might use them before my daughter goes to school!
This game looks great and I can't wait to use it! I play "Sparkle" with my students and now we can play "Zap!" Thank you very much!
Great ideas, thank you! Your reading area and class organization info gave me some great ideas for fifth grade next week!
I'm so glad you all found them helpful! =)
