Have I told you how much our third grade team rocks? We truly work so well together and enjoy collaborating. As we returned to school after the news of Sandy Hook, it was important to pick up, carry on, and show our students we love them.
This morning we put all of our students together for a Winter Wonderland of fun. We started with my winter wonderland word work freebie as students arrive. I have to have something on their desks as they come in, unpack, and fill out their planners for the day. It takes about 20 minutes to get all of the students in our room and listen to the announcements. That’s a lot of down time if you aren’t careful. =)
After that, we all moved next door to watch a winter movie. During the movie, we had donuts and milk. Yum! This was a great way to reward the students for all of their hard work during the first semester and a rare treat. It also gave the teachers time to finish up grades and record all of the benchmark data we’ve been collecting. Win-win!
When the movie was over, we had students “elf themselves” using this cute (and free!) printable from Corinna over at Surfin’ Through Second. We shrunk the template down to fit the free stickers we get of our students’ school pictures. They turned out so cute!
Finally, we made reindeer cookies. We modified the reindeer recipe from my Winter Wonderland Unit for Big Kids. Instead of baking the cookies and pushing the decorations in while they’re still warm, we used frosting as glue. It was messy, but so much fun. I’ll share the pictures on my Facebook or Pinterest page when I get them uploaded.
I also can’t leave without sharing these cute Meijer finds with you. I
resisted buying them for my whole class because the home-made versions
are so much cheaper, but how cute are these? They’d be so much fun to do
at home with your kids! They were $3.99 each in the holiday baking
section up front. Adorable!
