As promised, I’m back with my third (easiest, cheapest) tutorial. Friends, did you know you could paint your filing cabinet?

Just look at the difference! My husband had a set of these old, dirty filing cabinets in a dingy khaki color. Gross. I banished the worst one to the garage, that’s how ugly they were. But with a little spray paint, they look brand new and great in my new office. There really isn’t much to this little project.
Step One: Clean old, ugly filing cabinet with Simple Green.
Step Two: Prime filing cabinet with two coats of spray paint primer. (forgot to take a picture of this part… it was freezing in the garage!)
Step Three:Two coats of spray paint in a color of your choice. I popped the handles off this one and did them separately for a more even coat.

Just look at how nice it looks under my cutting desk next to my second DIY chair. It’s so much better than the ugly khaki color it was before. Simple!
If painting isn’t your thing, here’s a link to the filing cabinet I covered with contact paper at school. It would look pretty papered *and* painted. Hmm… =)

I’m loving the new office and feel so much more productive already. Next time I’ll show you the whole thing. In case you missed it, here’s a link to my second DIY tutorial: chalkboard memo board.

Love the new look Christi. I am in the middle of organising my study and was able to pick up a dirty old filing cabinet very cheaply…..but it looks gross in my office, so I was happy to find this post. I'm thinking I might contact it like your last one because quite frankly I just filled it up and don't want to move it. Thanks for the inspiration.

Thanks! I still have some work to do, but it's getting there. I always put myself last. ha!
LOVE the filing cabinet covered with contact paper. Where did you find such cute contact paper? I always look at Target, but most of the stuff is outdated or just plain and boring…
