Are you into basketball? It’s a crazy time with March Madness, and not to brag but I did win our school’s bracket last year and pick up this super cool hat/trophy. Be jealous.
To capitalize on the excitement with your class, I wanted to share this vocabulary bracket with you. Our principal forwarded it to us earlier this week and it’s free, free, free. You do have to sign up with an email address, but it was super quick.
Basically, students complete separate brackets for nouns, verbs, and adjectives using exciting words of their choice. {I’m seeing synonym, antonym, thesaurus, and dictionary skills in our future people!} Then the words go “head to head” in once sentence with only one word advancing to the next round. I love what this could do for vocabulary expansion!
My wheels are already spinning about other ways to use brackets with my class too, especially in math. Does this sound like something you’ll try with your students?
In other news, I wanted to give you the scoop on something new you’ll be seeing on my blog. I’m starting a weekly feature called “App of the Week” where I’ll highlight free (and very inexpensive) apps for the elementary classroom. It’s starts Wednesday, so be sure to swing back in. If you’re following me on Blog Lovin’, you know you won‘t miss it!

Love the hat – congrats on your big win! 🙂 We have 5 iPads in my classroom, so I cannot wait to see what apps you love!
