Many of you know about my little side-gig as a blog designer at Design by Christi. At over 100 blogs under my belt, I’ve had a few questions along the way that I thought might be helpful to everyone (especially after the recent Photobucket scare many people experienced). One of the biggest questions is how to back up your blog. Fortunately, it’s really easy!
There are two parts of your blog that you should back up. The first is your blog’s content. You know all of those posts you’ve written? What would happen if they all disappeared?? What if you want to move them over to a new blog? Did you know you can export your blog? This is something I do monthly for mine.
In your blogger control panel, look for “Settings” over on the left. Then click “other” at the bottom. At the top of your new screen, click “Export blog” and save the file somewhere safe on your computer. That’s it!
The other part of your blog that you’ll want to back up is your blog’s design. This is important because you don’t want to have to start all over if you make a mistake when adding a gadget, trying new html, etc. It’s especially important if you have a custom design and you aren’t quite sure how to put it back yourself. =)
In your blogger control panel, click “Template” over on the left. Then look in the top right corner and click “Backup/Restore” so a new window will pop up. In the new window, click the orange “Download Full Template” button and save the file somewhere safe on your computer. Easy as that! If you need to do an emergency restore of your blog‘s design, you can go right back to this same place and upload the file you saved. I do this each time I tweak my blog’s design.
Now you just need to remember to back up your blog regularly. I sent monthly reminders for mine because we all know how easy it is to forget. I hope that was helpful! If you’re looking for a new blog design, Design by Christi just might be what you need. =)

Wow! So good to know. I just did both. Thanks so much, Christi!

This is so good to know…THANK YOU!
Question, Christi…when you change your Teachers Pay Teachers scrolling menu to display different items from time to time, do you have to go through TpT and copy the special widget link and paste it to your blog every time or is there a quicker way to add/rearrange the menu?
Thanks for your help!

The Techie Teacher
It's installed with a script written and hosted by TpT so you have to update it through their website. I just copy/paste the first box of code right over the one already on my blog.
Got it…thank you!!
Thanks for the quick tutorial! I am off to back up by blog.

Wonderful tutorial, Christi! (Even someone with limited tech skills like myself can follow these steps.) I'm pinning this… and then adding this to my "To Do" list this weekend.

TONS and TONS of thanks for this tutorial!!! Just did both – it was so easy! Am going to go set reminders on my phone!
I would love a tutorial on changing what's shown on the TpT widget so you can choose which TpT item is visible to readers! In your spare time – HA!
And – I love, love, love your blog design, Christi! I am thinking about an upgrade over the summer and will definitely keep you in mind!!
