My students write autobiographies in writing workshop each March as part of a larger unit of study in reading workshop of biographies and historical fiction. I look forward to this project every year and love the home/school connection as students talk with their families about their memories and baby story.
Our autobiography unit is slightly different every year because I let the students help decide the path it will take. To make this work, I’ve created several different page
suggestions. Students are free to mix and match my pages or even create
their own. A blend of poems, lists, timelines, narratives, and pictures
work together to produce a room full of unique autobiographies. When
students share the finished project, they are proud to know they’ve
truly created something special and families treasure this unit too.
I just finished updating my autobiography writing pack in time for my students to publish their books this year {and it’s free today only!}. I added new pages and gave the old ones a makeover too. You can grab it in my TpT store. If you like it, please take a second to rate it in my store too.
I also updated my Writing a Poem A Day Poetry Unit for April’s National Poetry Month. If you already own my unit, be sure to redownload it to get the 25 new student pages!

This is awesome!!
