For those of you who couldn’t make it to the live webinar last night, our Caring Classroom webinar video is now on YouTube! I was so excited to collaborate with Laura Candler, Ari Huddleston, Mandy Neal, and Rachel Lynette to bring you this video that’s packed with tons of ideas for building a community in your classroom during those first few days of school.
Laura Candler starts the video, follow by me at about 20:00 minutes in. Then each other presenter also speaks for about 8-10 minutes. There’s a Q/A session at the end too.
I’d love to hear your ideas for making those first days a success. One thing this webinar made me realize is that we all do things in our classrooms every day that we think are really simple and not worth sharing. BUT, we all have great ideas that will be new to others so we *should* share them.
If you have a blog, you can link up a new or old post about starting the school year. Be sure to grab the button so your post links back here before linking up or your entry will be deleted.
If you don’t have a blog, please leave a comment if you have something to share. You just might see your ideas on my Facebook page in the future as I share out your tips. Let’s have a great year!

I really enjoyed the webinar! I was wondering if you had copies of the KWL chart, Me Chart and Venn Diagram available to print. I didn't notice them in the links on livebinder. Thanks!
I'm glad you enjoyed it! The printables are my contribution to the gift pack so they are in the zipped files from Laura's download page, as well as a few other related activities. 🙂
Hi Christi! The webinar was great! Thank you for sharing all of your wonderful ideas! I can't wait to use them with my kiddos in about a couple of days!
I can't wait to read all of the fabulous ideas! I really enjoyed the webinar last night. Thank you all so much for sharing your great ideas!
Thanks for sharing during the webinar yesterday. I loved your ideas and resources!
(sorry I messed up naming my link)
Loved your post, thanks!
I just finished listening to the webinar recording and I just wanted to say that I really like the ideas you shared. I'm definitely going to use it during my first week of school! 🙂

Thank you!
I loved listening to the webinar and got some great Back to School ideas — so important to start the school year off right! It also made me feel more organized as I began mentally planning what activities I wanted to do. I'm excited to use the teacher KWL chart you posted. It will be funny to hear what the students know about me and what they want to know.
I don't have a personal blog, so I will share my caring classroom idea here: For the past couple years, I have read the book, The Big Orange Splot by Daniel Pinkwater, which celebrates individual differences and being unique. In the story, the main character paints his dreams and goals on his house even though his neighbors are displeased. After reading the story, I often have the students draw a picture of a house that reflects their dreams/goals and then write a paragraph of explanation.
That's a new book for me, thanks for the suggestion!
